HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT...

Step 1: Choose the company

If you have a specific company in mind head to their website! Alternatively, you can use the gov.uk/apprenticeships website to find apprenticeships.

Step 2: Initial Application

The application will contain a variety of questions. Most of these are personal, about you. However, there is also likely to be questions such as;  "Why do you want to work for us?" or "What strengths can you bring?" It is essential to put in effort when writing the answers to these questions. Plan carefully what you will write. Be sure not to waffle and ensure to write a good amount.

Step 3: Waiting...

After you submit your application, there is always a wait period. It is essential not to panic during this time. You can use this time to research the companies values, their mission and the local news. By doing this, you can be sure that you know about the company when the time comes for the interview.

Step 4: Assessment Centre

The majority of companies will have an assessment centre. This is usually for a group of people that they are interested in hiring. It contains theoretical and practical assessments. It gives the company a chance to see how you work and your potential. It may also contain a face to face interview at the end or in stage 2.

Step 5: Second Stage Interview

After the assessment centre, some companies will invite you back for a second interview. For other companies, you will find out whether or not you were successful.

Step 6: Outcome

On average, the majority of companies will take at least 2 weeks before you hear back.. sometimes even longer. This is due to the fact there are a large number of applicants, If you are successful, you likely receive a phone call. If you are unsuccessful, it is usually communicated via email.

If you were successful in the interview process, it would be beneficial to take the time to think about the next steps. If you were unsuccessful, do not let it set you back. Use the feedback to your advantage. When you go back next time, you will know exactly what to expect and ace it!

Hard doesn't mean impossible
