I want to go to university....

Applying to Uni

All students in the UK that are looking to go to university, should apply for their chosen course via the UCAS website. UCAS is the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. They are a service who handle millions of applications from UK students applying to uni.

Aviation Entry Requirements

For the most up to date entry requirements, we recommend checking your chosen university's website or contacting them directly.

Each university will have a minimum number of UCAS points they require you to have. The general consensus is that you would have successfully gained these points in a related Maths, Science (Physics) or Engineering subject. You will also need GCSE Maths and English Language with grade C (4) or the Level 2 equivalent.

What degrees are there and how will this route work?

There are a variety of universities that provide aircraft maintenance related degrees.  Most degrees are a full-time three year programme and some even work in line with the CAA B Licence. During your programme, some universities will help with finding work experience or an industry placement. This is to help you get some experience before you graduate.

The two main degrees relating to Aircraft Maintenance are:

BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance

BEng (Hons) Aircraft Engineering

What is the difference between BSc or BEng?

BSc is a Bachelor of Sciences.

BEng is a Bachelor of Engineering.

The main difference between the two degrees are that a BEng is usually more specialised and focuses more on the engineering aspect as well as the theoretical side. However, the BSc is more of a general degree with primary focus on the theoretical side and principles.

On completion of your degree, you may be eligible for some graduate roles with airlines across the UK. We encourage you to search online via your chosen airline / company's website for graduate schemes.

Where can I study an Aircraft Maintenance Degree?

HerCraft are unable to recommend specific schools, universities and institutions. We advise researching suitable courses and finding an institution that works for you. Below is a highlighted list of universities that offer degrees related to aircraft maintenance.
