CAP 741 - WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I FILL IT OUT?

WHAT IS A CAP 741?

According to the CAA, the CAP 741 Logbook is a document that is to be used by engineers in order to keep record of the following:

- The individual's qualifications

- The individual's employment history

- The individual's experience.

The logbook is used for the CAA to confirm a person's technical competence when they are applying for a licence.

LOGBOOK SECTIONS

Section 1.1

In section 1.1 of your logbook, you will find 'Instructions for use'. This page is often missed due to the excitement of starting to fill out your logbook. However, it provides crucial information that will help to prevent any delay in getting your licence approved. This involves information such as; the date format that must be used, how each page should be identified, who can over sign your entries, and the process on completion of the logbook.

Section 1.3

In this section, you will need to enter all of your employment history. This then needs to be over signed by a senior member of your company. It is essential to record all employment history.

Section 2.1

This is your basic skills section. There are numerous skills required depending on your chosen licence category. These are all listed in your logbook. Each skill must be signed by competent assessor.  This should only be signed once you are deemed as competent in that skill.

Section 3.1

This section is used to record all your experience gained on aircraft that are currently in service. Aircraft information such as registration and serial number must be recorded alongside relevant work order / job card number. A competent, licenced engineer must sign off each job once you have proven you can carry out the job safely and correctly.
